What is MOTS-C? MOTS-C is a mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP), meaning it's produced within the mitochondria, the powerhouses of the cell. MOTS-c is a 16-amino acid peptide encoded by the mitochondrial genome.

What does MOTS-C do? MOT-C is expressed under stress conditions, including exercise, and moves to the nucleus to regulate gene expression. MOTS-C influences energy metabolism, potentially through the Folate-AICAR-AMPK pathway, and mediates mitochondrial regulation of insulin and metabolic homeostasis.  MOTS-C interacts with and regulates various nuclear-encoded proteins, including mTORC1 and AMPK, which are crucial for metabolic regulation and age-related diseases.  MOTS-C is a small but significant peptide molecule with a broad range of effects on cellular function, particularly in relation to metabolism and aging.
